At Baytown Pediatric Dentistry we aim to utilize every behavioral management technique at our disposal in managing our patients’ stress and discomfort. However, there are times when medical sedation may be necessary. During those times, we administer sedation in a controlled environment with careful consideration of each patient’s age, weight, and underlying medical condition. We offer the following methods of sedation:
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide offers a more mild form of sedation and is the first choice for sedation in most patients because of its efficacy and the fact that its sedating effects wear off within minutes.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Also known as moderate sedation, is defined as a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients will still respond purposefully to verbal commands and/or light tactile stimulation. Dr. Peiravani will administer the sedation medication based on your child’s weight and underlying health conditions.
Deep Sedation
Occasionally a patient will require a stronger form of sedation. Examples include patients with severe anxiety, those in need ofextensive procedures, or patients with special needs. These particular patients may benefit from IV sedation or General Anesthesia. This option will be administered and monitored by an anesthesiologist.
